Netherlands Train Traffic Tender

πŸ“„ Tender ID: 491306291 πŸ“… Published: 15 Jul 2023

πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

On Thursday morning June 29 train traffic resumed between Nijmegen and Nijmegen Lent. For safety reasons it was decided in the afternoon of 27 June to no longer run trains over the railway bridge in Nijmegen. This decision was made after an inspection in which a defect was found on the track not with the bridge itself.Update 29-06 0730 a.m.The work on the railway bridge is finished. The night from Wednesday to Thursday June 29 work and testing continued. From 700 in the morning the train traffic ran again. The repair of the track has now been carried out with temporary measures. The final repair will take place later and must be scheduled so that the inconvenience remains as small as possible.Update 28-06 2045 a.m.Tomorrow morning Thursday 29 June train traffic between Nijmegen and Nijmegen Lent will resume from 7 am. After careful risk assessment planning and coordination with the contractor it has just been decided that the repair work can take place on the night of Wednesday 28 to Thursday 29 June. This is a temporary solution so that train traffic can be resumed. The trains will initially run over the bridge with a speed limit. A final recovery will be planned later. For this complex recovery we depend on several factors. You can read more about this in the previous updates.Update 28-06 1815 a.m.Also on Thursday 29 June the trains will not yet run over the railway bridge at Nijmegen. We have done everything we can to get trains running again on Thursday but unfortunately this is not possible. It is a complex recovery operation which requires more time.As soon as the trains can cross the bridge again this will be done with a speed limit for the time being. Later At a later time we will come back to further renew the track on the bridge so that trains can run at speed there again.PlanningWhen this final recovery will take place we still determine. In order to plan this complex and far-reaching work we have to take many different factors into account. Is there enough railway staff available Are the parts in stock Arent the machines for rail renewal already being used elsewhere in the countryBut also can we work without causing too much inconvenience Think of work on surrounding train routes the festival Down The Rabbit Hole in Beuningen near Nijmegen this weekend or the Nijmegen Four Days Marches in July.Technical explanationA large part of the rails on the bridge were replaced last weekend. Last Tuesday it turned out that the new parts on the bridge and the old parts on the bridge did not connect well enough. This created unwanted stresses in the track structure and the rails became partly loose. It was then decided to stop train traffic and to redesign measure and where necessary replace the track construction and the fasteners on the bridge. We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers and carriers.Update 27-06 2130 a.m.Tonight it has become clear that tomorrow June 28 no train traffic will be possible on the railway bridge near Nijmegen. Experts and contractor are urgently working on a recovery plan. The repair is exceptional because it concerns a track defect on a bridge. Tomorrow we hope to be able to provide more clarity about the recovery and how long it will take.Between Arnhem Centraal and Nijmegen Lent there are fewer trains running. Local buses are running between Nijmegen and Nijmegen Lent. We find the inconvenience for traveler and carrier very annoying.Message 27-06 17.10 pmFor safety reasons it was decided in the afternoon of 27 June to no longer run trains over the railway bridge over the Waal between Lent and Nijmegen. During an inspection a defect in the track on the bridge was detected. It is not yet known how long the repair work will take. This news item will be updated when we know more. This weekend there was work on the overhead line and the railway. How todays defect could have arisen must be investigated. The focus is now on restoring the track so that trains can run over the bridge again.
