Residents of Drenthe and Groningen will soon be able to use a user-friendly travel service in the form of an app. For example to reserve a bicycle or car to book and pay for a trip by bus or train or to receive complete travel advice from door to door with a combination of different types of transport. Arriva Nederland has been commissioned by the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen to develop this app.Drenthe and Groningen together are one of the seven pilot areas in the Netherlands for the national project Mobility as a Service MaaS. This project is intended to stimulate sustainable travel and improve the mobility system in the Netherlands. In Drenthe and Groningen this is done under the heading of traveler central with the emphasis on being able to use the app easily. An important condition is that the travel service is accessible and provides useful advice for everyone including people in wheelchairs or partially sighted.Sustainable smart mobilityArriva has two years to further develop its existing MaaS app Via-Go and expand it to all forms of transport. For example to reserve a bicycle or car sharing from the place where the bus or train does not go further. But also for booking and paying for a seat in a neighborhood bus or a hub taxi that picks up travelers from home and takes them to a public transport hub from which scheduled services run to all major places.Start pilotThe pilot will start on December 1 2020. Arriva has until the end of 2022 to further develop and test the service. The specific applications for Groningen and Drenthe are expected to be available in six months. Arriva is developing the app for the Groningen and Drenthe region but users also travel to Amsterdam or Limburg with the same app.In this pilot the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen are working together with OV Bureau Groningen Drenthe Public Transport Groningen Drenthe and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management
