π Tender Overview
ProRail is coming up with a new schedule for the repair of the Caland Bridge. It was previously planned that the bridge would be available for all traffic again after Christmas 2022. We now assume 1 February 2023. Together with contractor Hollandia we worked hard to get the bridge open again around Christmas. We knew it was a tight schedule. If you then hear that it will indeed take longer that is very annoying for everyone. We will all continue to do our very best to get the bridge back up and running quickly says ProRail regional director Helga Cuijpers.Bearings also damagedThe new schedule is also not final. Bad weather conditions could delay the work slightly. The possibility that it will take longer has always been present and now appears to be true. This is because during the removal of the bearing wheels the bearing seats also appeared to be damaged. These bearing seats have been taken to a factory to be made. That is a very specialized job that comes down to accuracy down to one thousandth of a millimeter. The repair of the bearing seats is going to take eight weeks but lets do other jobs in parallel. That means we are only a few weeks behind schedule. We knew it was a tight schedule. If you then hear that it will indeed take longer that is very annoying for everyone.Ferry remains availableSince September 19 2022 a ferry has been operating between the two banks. Slow traffic can use this free of charge. More than 15000 people have now been transferred from one side to the other.Compensation for bus costs can also be requested via a special app. For more information about using the app visit Calandbrug.nl . Both the ferry and the compensation for the use of the bus will continue to apply during the work. Motorists and other fast traffic can detour via the Thomassentunnel.Lighting on the bicycleSometimes a ferry or bus is not suitable for your trip. Cyclists and moped riders then detour via Theemsweg and Neckarweg. Additional signs warn other road users of more cyclists on those roads than they may be used to. Cyclists also have an important task to be seen turn on your bicycle lights.
