As in the rest of the country there is a housing shortage in the Zaanstreek-Waterland region. More homes are needed to be able to offer everyone a house. In addition to the existing housing shortage the municipalities have another task. People with a residence permit who are allowed to stay in the Netherlands status holders currently live in overcrowded asylum reception centres. That is why the Zaanstreek-Waterland region also has the task of housing 225 to 248 status holders before 2023 in addition to the existing target. Municipalities are tackling this task together. Because housing is also an urgent issue for other target groups. After an initial scan all the colleges in the region put forward solutions or locations. These options for fulfilling the assignment have been shared with the municipal councils and are subsequently offered to the province. Financing the realization and integration are an important part of this.Various options for temporary housingEach municipality has investigated the possibilities in its own municipality for realizing temporary or non-temporary housing for urgent seekers including status holders. Criteria for this are the number of homes facilities in the neighbourhood existing housing plans and the speed with which construction or renovation can take place. Each municipality has its own reason for naming a solution or location. For each location there are different challenges to make the place suitable for housing. The locations require further elaboration. Schedules depend on the required permits and zoning plans. In particular we hope for more flexibility from the province with regard to Special Provincial Landscape. The municipalities will inform the province about the progress of the joint task and ask for its commitment and cooperation in the joint elaboration and realization. Among other things the province considers the spatial suitability of the plans. What does this mean for PurmerendAll municipalities in the region started looking for locations for temporary housing for status holders and urgent seekers. Purmerend found it at the location of the old police station. We also see that we have major area developments including the east flank and Zuidoostbeemster II. Such development projects often take 10 to 15 years before they are completely ready. In such a large area it is easier to find space for a small number of temporary homes until final buildings are built. The fact that the municipality is looking at the east flank and Zuidoostbeemster II therefore has no consequences for the ambitions we have with these areas. Much research is still needed and it is also not certain that the east flank and Zuidoostbeemster II are needed for housing status holders and emergency seekers. The other municipalities also put forward locations. From the start of the development of the eastern flank and Zuidoostbeemster II we will examine whether there are places where a small number of temporary homes can be placed. The necessary procedures still need to be completed for this in due course.
