Together with the Veluwe and Rhine branches the province of Gelderland is responsible for the 2 largest Dutch Natura 2000 areas on the mainland. In addition Gelderland has several smaller nature reserves such as the unique peat areas in the Achterhoek. Drenth We dont sit still. The biggest challenge lies in the Veluwe. We are busy restoring nature and working on a healthy and liveable Veluwe of the future.Gelderland nitrogen approachDue to excessive nitrogen load the Gelderland nature reserves have deteriorated considerably in recent decades.
