Alderman Erik Bekkering presented a check for 2500 to students of the Van Reenen School and the Bergen Centrum Residents Association. The amount was saved by road users who kept to the speed of 30 kmh on the Hoflaan in Bergen. In November and December 2021 the Safety-safe also known as a savings pole was installed on the Hoflaan a speedometer that rewards good road behaviour. The reason for this was that many residents were concerned about the high speed at which people were driving through the street. During the deployment of the Safety-safe many cars kept to the maximum speed so that money was always put into the digital piggy bank. Finally the maximum final amount has been collected Savings goal balancing equipment for the childrenThe saved amount is used for a very pleasant goal balancing equipment for the children This goal was chosen together with the residents of the neighbourhood. The balancing devices are placed on the field opposite the Van Reenenschool. Thats why the check was handed out there. Savings pole gone but municipality continues to discuss road safetyThe piggy bank has now been removed and there is a memorial sign. However the municipality of Bergen will also keep an eye on traffic safety in the street after this deployment. A first for the municipality of Bergen The arrival of the Safety-safe was a first for the municipality of Bergen. However the Safety-safe is a tried-and-tested concept that has previously been used successfully in other Dutch and Belgian provinces and municipalities including in North Holland. The use of the Safety-safe was made possible by a subsidy from the Province of Noord-Holland.
