On 15 November 2022 the Provincial Executive adopted the Implementation Program for Water Collection Areas 2022-2027. This describes how we protect drinking water within the 37 groundwater protection areas in Brabant.Together with municipalities drinking water companies and the water boards goals have been set to ensure that the quality of our drinking water is also guaranteed in the future. In the coming years the province will continue to work on various projects related to drinking water extraction. For example by combating the use of pesticides getting and maintaining permits in order tackling soil contamination and proper monitoring of projects and implementation measures. WFD targetsUnder the Water Framework Directive WFD governments are jointly responsible for achieving the WFD objectives for drinking water abstractions and the provinces must draw up area files with associated implementation programs for drinking water abstractions every 5 years.
