πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The Province of Limburg has definitively agreed to the introduction of the new Knots Lopen walking network. In this way the Province underlines the importance of a good walking infrastructure for South Limburg. Not only the tourists but also the inhabitants reap the benefits. The Province of Limburg will contribute 500000 euros to the total costs an important condition for starting the tender. For the residents and guests of South Limburg this means that the colored bollard routes will be replaced by nodes or number plates at the end of 2022 that make it possible to compose your own routes.Initiative to Knots Walk-walk networkIn 2016 Visit Zuid-Limburg made a proposal to the municipalities of South Limburg and the Province of Limburg to convert the colored pedestrian posts into Knots Lopen a signage system that is on the rise in the Netherlands and Europe. The Province of Limburg was enthusiastic and financed the feasibility study and the project manager. The results of the studies carried out were positive and led to the sixteen municipalities in South Limburg signing the cooperation agreement on March 18th to introduce the network. Now the Province of Limburg has also decided to finance part of the costs for the construction of the network with which the tender can start.Location networkThe network of an expected 1800 kilometers will be realized within the triangle between Sittard-Geleen Vaals and Eijsden-Margraten and will connect closely to the existing interchange networks of Echt-Susteren the Belgian Voer region and the Aachener Wald. Future networks of Stdteregion Aachen and Selfkant will also be connected soon. The assets of South Limburg - with its unique landscape and Burgundian lifestyle - can be made visible and experienceable for both residents and visitors through the renewed network. Commissioner Stephan Satijn Economics sees opportunities with the introduction of the network to achieve a better distribution of walkers in South Limburg and to relieve the Heuvelland somewhat. This new future-proof walking network is also an essential part of the tourist offer in South Limburg and therefore a cornerstone for the tourist sector. In recent years we have seen how immensely popular walking has become with young and old.OpportunitiesDeputy Madeleine van Toorenburg Sport is pleased that with the arrival of the new walking network she has an asset to promote health among for example the over-55s. A good walking infrastructure for example from the residential areas will soon make it more accessible to exercise. Jean-Paul Kompier. Alderman of the municipality of Vaals adds on behalf of the sixteen municipalities If municipalities the province and nature organizations join forces something exceptional can be achieved for tourism.ParticipationPrior to the definitive replacement of the colored route posts the various parties - nature organizations but also smaller groups such as neighborhood groups and walking associations - are invited by the municipalities to participate in discussions about the new walking network. Interested parties can report to routepunt@visitzuidlimburg.nl.
