πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Employees are the crucial factor for successful innovation in government organizations. The initiative for innovations often comes from employees. They have the necessary knowledge or bring it in through their networks. This is apparent from the 2021 Government Innovation Barometer a study into innovations in Dutch government organisations. Of all participating government organizations 86 implemented one or more innovations in 2019 and 2020. The Innovation Barometer shows which innovations were implemented in 2019 and 2020 how they came about and what the benefits are says Marieke van Wallenburg Director-General of Government Organization of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Innovations in Dutch government organizations lead to better services and more efficiency in 60 to 65 of the cases. Innovation is therefore of great added value. The Innovation Barometer also offers practical starting points for strengthening the innovative capacity of government organizations.Beautiful examplesThe report extensively examines the innovations implemented by Dutch government organisations. This shows that government organizations innovate frequently and across a broad spectrum often the innovation of products services processes andor the interaction with citizens is combined. The barometer provides many fine examples says Marieke van Wallenburg. Without wanting to shortchange others Van Wallenburg mentions the household book of the municipality of Utrecht. It is not without reason that one of the contenders in the Election for the Best Government Innovation of the Year 2021 prize which will be awarded on 18 November in the Ridderzaal in The Hague. Room for failure and learningThe barometer identifies major differences between government organisations. The biggest difference between organizations with a strong innovation climate and organizations with a limited innovation climate is the way in which errors are handled. Innovation processes are accompanied by failures there must be room to fail and to learn from it. International comparisonThe figures in the Government Innovation Barometer 2021 have been compared where possible with figures from a number of Scandinavian countries in particular with data from Denmark. This shows that there are many similarities but also important differences. In Denmark innovations more often come about under the influence of legislation and regulations restructuring and austerity measures. In the Netherlands the main reason is that people see opportunities from within the organizations themselves. Dutch government organizations are more inspired by successful innovations by others and are more likely to seize technological opportunities. Having a good network is of great importance in this regard.Importance of innovationFinally Marieke van Wallenburg about the importance of innovation Innovation contributes to the learning capacity of organisations leads to public value it gives energy to employees and stimulates their enthusiasm. Thats what we need within government organizationsThis research will be continued. For example the research results will be used for in-depth analyzes of executive organizations of the central government in the context of the State of Implementation.
