Netherlands First Schiphol Tender

📄 Tender ID: 487311889 📅 Published: 19 Apr 2023

📋 Tender Overview

The first part of the work at and around Schiphol Airport station has been completed. A lot of work has been done in the Schiphol railway tunnel and on the lifts at the station. We will continue at the beginning of October. We are preparing the rail infrastructure for the next forty years. Two projectsTwo major projects are being carried out at Schiphol Airport station Groot Onderhoud Schiphol GOS and Multimodale Knoop Schiphol MKS. For the former contractor Strukton Volker Schiphol is working in and outside the Schiphol railway tunnel. From MKS BAM Infra carries out work together with kone supplier of the lifts and escalators. They are renovating the ascent and descent points at the station. Through the adjustments we improve the passenger flow and make more space on the platforms and on the Plaza above. Both projects reinforce each other.Railway tunnelsThe Schiphol railway tunnel has two tunnel tubes. In the recent period tracks and sleepers have been renewed. In the oldest tunnel tube we removed the smoke-absorbing wall and ceiling plates. They were stuck with glue containing asbestos fibres. Meanwhile 6800 m2 of the tunnel has been cleaned. Some switches have been renewed and a test has been done with a new prefab beams and plate track. This will be further constructed in the railway tunnel later this year. This track has a longer service life so that less maintenance will be required in the Schiphol tunnel in the future. In the fourth quarter the major maintenance project at Schiphol will replace the existing overhead lines and install a power rail. We are raising the track so that passengers can get on and off the train more easily.Roller stairs and rampsAll three lifts at the station were renewed in the first quarter of 2023. Two stair-escalator combinations have been replaced by a double escalator. The ramps - moving paths - will be replaced by stairs to accommodate the expected passenger growth on the platforms. The number of passengers is growing the platforms are full and therefore safety on the platforms is decreasing. That is why crowd control is already being used on platform . In order to guarantee safety we make space on all platforms by replacing the roller conveyors with fixed stairs. They take up much less space. The number of escalators is being expanded at the same time. On the platforms they will all be equipped with new glazing doors and wall finishes for better fire resistance. From the end of September we will replace the ramps with a fixed staircase. We are also replacing an existing lazy fixed staircase with a new one. The work on the ramps will be completed in February 2024.PlanningNormally work is planned as much as possible during holiday periods. But at Schiphol Airport these are the busiest times of the year. The large-scale renovation work on the Schiphol rail tunnel and the Multimodal Node Schiphol project will therefore only be carried out in the first three and last three months of the year. This allows us to plan as much as possible outside the holidays and the airport remains accessible to travelers as much as possible. The work will therefore be resumed around the beginning of October.
