π Tender Overview
The renovation of Roermond station is progressing steadily. The space where the new StationsHuiskamer is to be built is almost ready. Where there used to be a waiting room and a restoration beautiful signs of yesteryear can still be seen such as the large doors and windows. They have been restored to their full glory. And outside is already being painted a lot. The station returns to its original color. The renovation started in February . The station will remain open during the work. The StationsHuiskamer will soon be furnished and is designed in such a way that it fits completely into the historic station. The beautiful large doors and windows really give you that historic feeling again says station developer Ren Zirkzee. The former waiting room and restoration have not been accessible for years but it has beautiful identical columns and frames. They have been restored. The ornaments on the ceiling are also visible again. They still get their original green-blue color. The StationsHuiskamer is a place where travelers can comfortably wait with an overview of current travel information. There are hot drinks for sale with something tasty to go with it. There are also extra facilities that make waiting or staying even more comfortable such as sockets free WiFi and a toilet. The Kiosk at Roermond station will disappear. In the next phase the passage from the buses to the station will be tackled. The passage will be wider so that the passenger has more space. To make that space the Kiosk and the florist will disappear in their current location. The florist must return next to the new StationsHuiskamer. Zirkzee Unfortunately the florist went bankrupt. So we are looking for a new operator preferably a florist again.Historical buildingRoermond station is 160 years old making it one of the oldest stations in the Netherlands. And that is more visible after the renovation says Zirkzee.A good example of this is the entrance which was renovated in its current form in 1993. The architect has looked at old photos of the station and created a design that brings back the old grandeur of the station. The starting point is now that the building is returned to its original state as much as possible. The renovation of the entrance will start soon. Because we are very aware of the value of our stations as cultural-historical heritage says Zirkzee. Preserving this heritage contributes to the experience of travelers and to keeping stations and station locations recognizable. It is difficult to say how long the work will take due to the shortage of materials in construction. NS hopes to complete the work by the end of this year.
