π Tender Overview
Excavations of the Line 2 tunnel reach 86% and are consolidated as one of the most important transportation projects in the country for the benefit of millions of Peruvians. The construction of Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro continues to advance. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported that the Delia tunnel boring machine arrived at the Oscar R. Benavides station (E-06), in Callao, a new milestone in the execution of the first completely underground metro in Peru.
With this arrival, the excavation of 800 meters of tunnel between the San Marcos (E-07) and Oscar R. Benavides stations was completed. During this section, the machinery advanced at an average rate of 15 meters per day, maintaining the constant progress of the work.
Since it began operations, the Delia TBM has built almost 13 kilometers of tunnel and has already passed through thirteen stations of the project: Circunvalacion, Nicolas Ayllon, 28 de Julio, Cangallo, Manco Capac, Estacion Central, Plaza Bolognesi, Parque Murillo, Tingo Maria, La Alborada, Elio, San Marcos and now Oscar R. Benavides. After completing this section, the tunnel boring machine will continue with the excavation towards the Carmen de la Legua (E-05) and Insurgentes (E-04) stations, where its journey will end.
Of the 27 kilometers of tunnel included in the total layout of Line 2, more than 25 kilometers have already been built. Only the section between the Oscar R. Benavides and Insurgentes stations, in Callao, remains.
Advancement of tunnel boring machines
In parallel, the Micaela tunnel boring machine continues with the construction of the branch of Line 4 of the Lima and Callao Metro. It is currently heading towards the Quilca station (E4-06) and will then advance through Morales Duarez (E4-07) and Carmen de la Legua (E4-08).
According to the MTC, at the end of January 2026, the Delia tunnel boring machine registers 86% progress in the excavation of the Line 2 tunnel, while Micaela reaches 53% in the Line 4 branch. Altogether, the megaproject of the first underground metro in the country presents a general progress of 80.66%.
When the system operates at 100%, Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro will allow the movement of more than 660 thousand passengers per day through a fast, safe and modern service. Projections indicate that by 2030 demand could exceed 1.2 million daily users, consolidating this system as one of the main public transport hubs in the capital and Callao.
