Work is being carried out on a 24-kilometer route between the provinces of Lampa and Azangaro to improve vehicular traffic conditions and road safety.The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), through the General Directorate of Transportation Programs and Projects, reports that periodic maintenance work continues to advance on approximately 24 kilometers of the South Interoceanic Highway, between the districts of Calapuja, in the province of Lampa; and Azangaro, in the province of the same name, in the Puno region.
The intervention includes sectors 16: Calapuja-Mataro and 17: Mataro-Azangaro, located between kilometers 4+800 and 28+500 of the national route PE-34-B. Currently, the work registers a physical progress of 70%.
The works, carried out by Concesionaria Vial del Sur S.A. (Covisur), contemplate periodic maintenance at the level of pavements, works of art and drainage, as well as improvements in road safety elements. These tasks have the objective of restoring service levels in accordance with what is established in the concession contract. This guarantees that vehicular circulation is safer and more efficient for the benefit of citizens.
The execution of the work began on October 13, 2025. The work was suspended in December of the same year due to the start of the rainy season, and was resumed in May 2026. Completion is scheduled for next July.
The MTC reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting road maintenance works that contribute to improving connectivity, strengthening safety on the roads and promoting the economic development of the countrys regions.
