Sunass warns about the importance of cleaning tanks and cisterns to protect school health, during activities with the provincial municipality of Huancayo.More than 50 directors and staff of schools in the province of Huancayo participated in the Quality Water training, organized by the National Superintendency of Sanitation Services (Sunass) and the Municipal Technical Area of the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo.
The activity raised awareness about the importance of cleaning and disinfecting tanks, cisterns and water systems in school premises, to guarantee a safe and quality service for the benefit of the educational community.
The lack of maintenance of the storage systems can affect the quality of the water, so its cleaning and disinfection are essential to prevent diseases and protect the health of schoolchildren, said Rosario Sedano, social manager of Sunass in Junin.
He explained that, as part of the Sunass Educational Program, residual chlorine is monitored and the status of water systems in prioritized schools is verified; where tanks and cisterns that do not meet the conditions to guarantee safe water were identified.
Given this, it recommended cleaning and disinfection at least twice a year and prioritizing these activities for resource management before entities such as the Huancayo Local Educational Management Unit.
For his part, Jair Quispe Merge, from the ATM of the provincial municipality, explained that the cleaning and disinfection of the water tanks allows the elimination of biofilm, sediments and possible pests, as well as controlling infectious outbreaks and preventing bad odors and flavors, guaranteeing safe water for consumption.
The training included Josue Aquino, representative of the Chema company, who provided assistance on the maintenance of water storage systems. He recommended waterproofing the cisterns to avoid the presence of contaminating agents and prevent the deterioration of metal components, such as doors and lids, which can rust and compromise the quality of the water.
