Minedu and Private Company come together to align higher educational training with the needs of the labor marketPilot project will benefit tourism guides, Tours coordinators, hotel and restaurants personnel, and other workers in the sector
More than 1.3 million people who work in the tourism sector may certify their professional competences and improve their job opportunities or studies thanks to an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Education (MINEDU), in alliance with the private company, which seeks to modernize occupational profiles and align the higher educational training with the needs of the labor market.
In this way, guides, Tours coordinators, travel advisors, adventure tourism operators, hotel and restaurants personnel, and other workers in the sector may have the recognition of their skills, acquired through study or work experience, which will give them more possibilities of accessing better jobs and continuing to specialize.
To do this, and with the aim of updating competition standards and transforming education and employment in this key sector for the development of the country, the MINEDU develops a pilot project in which the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Cenfotur and Business Guilds such as now Peru, APAVIT, APTAE, FENAGUITUR and CANATUR also participate.
This initiative is part of the annual work plan 2025 of the National Framework of Qualifications of Peru, a multisectoral effort that seeks to connect education with the productive sector. The strategy includes specialized workshops and the creation of a Sectorial Tourism Commission, in charge of validating the competences of those interested in developing professionally in this field.
The Minister of Education, Morgan Quero, explained that the objective is to implement an international model of qualifications, in which the productive sector raises the work profiles and the necessary competences of the workers so that the educational institutions adapt their study programs in accordance with the labor demand.
The Minedu is committed to strengthening the connection between education and employment, and with the construction of an inclusive and quality educational system, which responds to current and future challenges, as proposed by the Social Pact for Education, he said.
The first workshop of the Sectorial Tourism Commission was held on March 12, and the following sessions are scheduled for April 8 and 9, and May 6 and 7. These meetings will be key to laying the foundations for dialogue with higher education institutions and, in the future, extending this model to other strategic sectors, such as mining and agribusiness.
The National Framework of Qualifications of Peru is an instrument for the classification and recognition of the skills and skills acquired by the study or work experience, which allows improving education for work, aligning it with business needs, and increasing employment and study opportunities to promote the development of citizens.
