A new bridge over the Cufré stream will include an 11.20 meter roadway and will replace the previous one, which is 6 meters wide. In addition, it will incorporate reinforced concrete shoulders and safety barriers. With these works, a project begins that includes improvements in the crossings over the Pereira, Pavón and La Boyada streams, within the framework of a plan of 100 similar interventions.
The construction of a bridge over the Cufré stream began, on the border between the departments of Colonia and San José, reported the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP).
These works make up the Route 1 project: Bridges over the Pereira, Pavón, La Boyada and Cufré Streams, whose objective is to improve circulation conditions and adapt the road infrastructure to current traffic, cargo and safety requirements. In this case, a new bridge will be built at kilometer 106,820 of route No. 1.
The intervention includes the demolition of the current bridge and its subsequent reconstruction with new structural features, designed according to modern road safety and vehicle containment criteria.
Among the main improvements planned, the expansion of the circulation width stands out. While the carriageways of the current bridges are about 6 meters, those of the new structures will be 11.20 and will also incorporate shoulders and New Jersey-type safety barriers made of reinforced concrete.
Adaptation tasks will also be carried out on the accesses, to adjust them and optimize road safety in the area.
The national director of Roads, Federico Magnone, had informed Presidential Communication that the intervention of about 100 bridges was planned during this administration.
Until the works are completed, traffic will be affected on route No. 1, between kilometers 106,183 and 107,330. In this section, vehicular traffic will be diverted to the south carriageway.
In order to guarantee connectivity, agricultural vehicles must use, as an alternative route, the road to Cufré Pass, while this traffic configuration remains in force.
