πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

A national conference was held today in Chisinau discussing the need to increase the quality of fruit and berries in our country including the need to invest in marketing to conquer new markets. Also national and international experts at the event spoke about the economic potential and prospects the sectors challenges the requirements and the specificity of the foreign markets the new technologies for producing storing and packing fruit and berries. The conference was attended by the Minister of Agriculture Regional Development and Environment Nicolae Ciubuc who mentioned in the message to the participants This year the global fruit production has increased. Demand for Moldovan apples is decreasing as importers already cultivate their own production. At the same time Moldovan fruits are appreciated because they are ecological and increasing their quality will increase farmers chances of being accepted in new international markets. International experts at the event said that the world market is overloaded with low-grade berries and apples and the Moldovan farmers chance is to invest in quality and marketing and move towards new outlets.Against this background FAO representative Andriy Yarmak said The world market for apples stagnates as production increases. This years European fruit has reached a record figure of 3.4 million tonnes equivalent to 40 fresh annual apple fruits in the Republic of Moldova. In the future the fruit and apple market does not provide any deficit. At the same time former and current importers - Russia Uzbekistan Georgia Azerbaijan Tajikistan Ukraine - have begun actively cultivating their own production and are focusing on exports. According to the expert Moldovan producers should focus on new outlets in particular Asia and Africa to invest in new technologies varieties demanded on the market quality and to a great extent marketing. Concerning the berry sector AndriyYarmak said the situation of the berries even if demand on the foreign market is rising towards apples it is not much better. While the blueberries sold at the beginning of the season in Europe 2-3 euros kg their price in the Republic of Moldova was 12 euros. Also the price of quality raspberries in Ukraine has fallen over the last 3 years from US 2 to 25 cents and currants in the markets of Poland and Ukraine are overloaded. As in the case of apples the solution proposed by experts is the investment in marketing and orientation towards the requirements of foreign markets.According to FARM experts areas occupied by bacchal crops are in a dynamic growth in recent years. Annually about 100 hectares are planted annually with a total area of 3000 hectares three times larger than in 2012. Also during this period the production of baccaliers has increased more than 11 times. There is also a diversity in the assortment of berries - the shelves of the local supermarkets with the inscription produced in Moldova were supplemented with blackberries blueberries and goji fruits. The National Conference Moldovan Fruits and Berries - Productivity and Marketing Efficiency was organized by the Federation of Farmers of Moldova FARM under the aegis of EBRD and FAO within the framework of a joint technical assistance project Improving high-value trade opportunities in Georgia Moldova Tajikistan and Uzbekistan .
