📋 Tender Overview
In his presentation before the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission, he also highlighted the investment shock of nearly S/3,400 million to strengthen tourism infrastructure in the regions. The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Jose Reyes Llanos, highlighted during his presentation before the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission of the Congress of the Republic, that Peru is consolidating itself as one of the countries with the greatest export dynamism in Latin America, ranking as the second economy with the highest export growth in the region during the first two months of 2026.
In the first two months of 2026, Peruvian exports increased 33.5%, reaching US$ 17,767 million, thanks to higher prices, mainly of minerals. This growth positions Peru as the second country with the greatest export expansion in Latin America, emphasized Minister Reyes.
During the parliamentary session chaired by Congressman Jorge Zeballos, the head of Mincetur pointed out that this result reflects the solidity of the foreign trade sector and its direct contribution to economic growth, job creation and productive diversification of the country.
It is necessary to highlight that the sector has had a notable performance, despite the different crises that international trade has experienced. For the fifth consecutive year, Peruvian exports continue to grow after the record of more than US$ 90 billion in 2025, with a growth rate of 22.1%, he mentioned.
In this sense, Reyes highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and internationalization of Peruvian companies, such as the Productive Export Route (RPE), the Peru Exporta Industria program and trade promotion actions, which include business conferences, business missions and participation in international fairs.
Likewise, he highlighted that Peru has 23 current trade agreements with 58 markets, which concentrate 87% of exports, and has been promoting four new agreements to come into force in July 2026.
Regarding the tourism subsector, the minister explained that it continues to consolidate itself as a key driver of economic and social development. With a projection of more than 4 million international tourists by 2026 and significant dynamism in domestic tourism, Peru strengthens its positioning as a competitive and sustainable destination.
Between January and March 2026, the country received more than 823 thousand international tourists, registering a growth of 3.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Likewise, a foreign exchange income of US$ 1,267 million is estimated, which represents an increase of 6.9%, evidencing a recovery not only in the flow of visitors, but also in tourist spending and in the economic value generated by the activity, he highlighted.
Investment shock in Tourism
He explained that the sector has been promoting a shock of tourism investments for nearly S/3,400 million, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, diversifying the offer and generating greater economic impact in the regions. This effort is materialized in five major initiatives: the Playas del Norte and Sechura tourism development program (S/400 million); the Macro North Tourist Corridor (S/800 million); the strengthening of the Arequipa-Colca destination (S/331.3 million); the promotion of the Macro Centro Tourist Corridor (S/900 million); and the emblematic Choquequirao project, in Cusco and Apurimac (S/936.2 million).
In addition, the head of Mincetur highlighted progress in the diversification of the tourism offer, such as the recognitions obtained by Peru in the Smart Tourist Destinations model (FIDI awards). Along these lines, he highlighted the Leon Route, a religious-cultural tourism product that articulates the regions of Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Callao, for which S/10 million has been allocated aimed at formalization, signage, promotion and investment promotion actions.
In terms of tourism promotion, the minister reported that Perus participation is being promoted in 11 international events, with a business potential estimated at US$ 31 million, as well as in 7 national events, which project around S/25 million, aimed at strengthening domestic tourism and boosting regional economies.
In other topics, the minister reported that, through PROMPERU, measures are being adopted to strengthen the management of the Directorate of Peruvian Commercial Offices Abroad (OCEX) and the OCEX, including institutional reorganization actions, the reinforcement of supervision and control mechanisms, and the improvement of administrative and operational processes, among others.
These actions reflect a comprehensive vision that articulates foreign trade and tourism as complementary axes for development, promoting competitiveness, productive inclusion and decentralized growth throughout the national territory.
