Minister Communications Monitors Tender

📄 Tender ID: 530397295 📅 Published: 16 Mar 2026

📋 Tender Overview

The Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, follows in Curitiba, Parana, the tests of 5G Broadcast technology, an innovation that could transform the way Brazilians watch audiovisual content on their cell phones. The experiments are being carried out at Rede CNT facilities and are part of studies to evaluate the potential of the technology in the country.
The tests are coordinated by the company Rohde & Schwarz, with a transmission station located at the broadcaster. The process has technical monitoring from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the operator Claro, which monitor possible impacts on mobile phone networks.
For minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho, following the tests is essential for Brazil to advance in the discussion about the future of television and digital communication.
The reception of TV 3.0 on cell phones represents an important evolution for the communications sector. This technology combines the reach of open TV with the mobility of digital devices, expanding the populations access to information, entertainment and public services, stated the minister.
The initial phase of the experiments began on February 24 and 25, 2026, when field measurements were carried out without transmission, with the aim of establishing a reference for signal level and network conditions before transmissions began.
The main objective of the tests is to verify whether 5G Broadcast technology can operate without causing interference to mobile networks already in operation. Transmissions began with reduced power, 30 watts, and were gradually increased until reaching the current mark of 1 kilowatt. To date, there has been no indication of relevant interference in mobile telephone networks, according to measurements carried out during the tests.
The Secretary of Broadcasting at the Ministry of Communications, Wilson Wellisch, explained that 5G Broadcast represents an advance in the way television content is distributed.
5G Broadcast is a technological standard that allows television transmission directly to mobile devices. The tests we are carrying out here were requested by the Ministry of Communications and aim to assess whether this technology can operate harmoniously with existing mobile networks, without causing interference, he said.
The superintendent of Grants and Resources for Provision of the National Telecommunications Agency, Vinicius Caram, highlighted that the technological evolution of broadcasting goes hand in hand with the advancement of mobile networks.
The evolution of technologies does not only happen in mobile networks, but also in broadcasting. We are talking about TV 3.0 and now the possibility of bringing this television to mobile devices. The objective of these tests is precisely to verify whether the 5G Broadcast signal can operate without causing interference in current systems. If everything progresses as expected, the Brazilian population will soon be able to receive the free open TV signal directly on their smartphone, in a simple and accessible way, he concluded.
Transmitter shutdown and restart tests were also carried out, a procedure used to evaluate possible variations in mobile network indicators during technology operation. Full analysis of the collected data is still ongoing.
What is 5G Broadcast
5G Broadcast is a transmission technology that distributes open TV and video content directly to cell phones and other mobile devices. Unlike traditional streaming, in which each user consumes data individually over the internet, 5G Broadcast transmits a single TV signal that can be received simultaneously by thousands or millions of devices, without overloading the mobile network.
Among the main benefits of the technology are: watching open TV on your cell phone without using mobile data, simultaneous transmission to millions of users, greater signal stability in large events and the possibility of using it for public communication and alerts in emergencies. The technology has already been tested in several countries and is considered one of the main bets for integrating the future of open television with the digital ecosystem.
