Supreme Decree establishes a new opportunity to process the environmental adaptation of ongoing tourist activities.The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) extended the deadline for the environmental adaptation of ongoing tourism activities until June 2030, within the framework of the Environmental Management Regulation of the Tourism Sector (RGAST).
The measure, made official by Supreme Decree No. 006-2026-MINCETUR, will allow the owners of tourism activities that do not have an approved Environmental Management Instrument (IGA) to regularize their environmental situation by submitting the Environmental Adequacy and Management Program (PAMA) or the Environmental Adequacy Plan in Tourism (PAAT), as appropriate, until June 2, 2030.
It should be remembered that the RGAST established a maximum period of three years for said process, which expired on June 1, 2026. In that sense, the approved extension responds to the need to facilitate progressive compliance with environmental regulations, considering that a significant number of administrators had not yet begun their adaptation process.
Likewise, the supreme decree incorporates specific provisions for those holders who, having an approved IGA, have carried out extensions or modifications without approval, establishing the mechanisms that allow their regularization in accordance with the current regulatory framework.
This standard includes the contributions of tourism sector actors and citizens, received during the pre-publication process, as well as the concerns raised by national associations, who identified technical, operational and administrative limitations that made it difficult to adequately complete the environmental adaptation processes within the originally established deadline.
With this approval, Mincetur reaffirms its commitment to responsible environmental management of tourism, promoting the sustainable development of tourism activity, the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities at the national level.
