📋 Tender Overview

UNICEF and BMW Group launch a seven-year alliance, under the motto BRIDGE. Educate the youth of tomorrow, today. The objective is to enrich teacher training with a gender focus and develop inclusive learning for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. In the first stage of this alliance alone, 26,000 girls and adolescents are expected to benefit.

STEM fields are dominated by the male gender in Mexico, where only 3 out of 10 professionals in these areas are women (IMCO, 2021), despite the fact that these careers have greater job demand and better salaries. The alliance in our country will emphasize the education of girls and young people through the creation of STEM ecosystems, that is, communities that encourage collaboration between schools, extracurricular programs, expert institutions in science and research, higher education, and the private sector. and community organizations.

In Mexico, the alliance between UNICEF and BMW Group will encourage, through joint work with the state Secretariats of Education, favorable STEM environments in Baja California, Chihuahua, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi, where they will be carry out the following actions, such as providing vocational guidance to girls and adolescents to encourage planning a life project; implement a mentoring network that focuses on the empowerment and strengthening of skills in girls and adolescents, as well as promoting behavioral change regarding gender stereotypes.

In Mexico we want to see more women scientists, engineers, mathematicians, presidents. The more girls and adolescents have access to these disciplines and opportunities, the greater the conviction on the part of society to recognize them and integrate their skills in all sectors. UNICEF celebrates the establishment of alliances like this with the BMW Group, which are a solid foundation to build the Mexico of the 21st century, commented Fernando Carrera Castro, Representative of UNICEF Mexico, regarding the collaboration.

For his part, Harald Gottsche, President and CEO of BMW Group San Luis Potosi Plant, commented that In our company, we seek to encourage girls and adolescents to join STEM careers and give them the opportunity to consider a solid future. This alliance with UNICEF will allow us to continue contributing to improving opportunities for them through learning and development spaces. In this sense, our plant already has educational initiatives and programs such as the Industrial ProLead Meister Program in Mechatronics and the Dual Vocational Training Program, which has 45% women enrolled.

Likewise, Diego Camargo, CEO of BMW Group Mexico reinforces: We are going to celebrate 30 years of the BMW Group in Mexico and there is no better way to do it than to promote education and develop the youth of Mexico. The collaboration with UNICEF brings us great pride and we hope to reach the entire country with concrete actions.

The collaboration between UNICEF and BMW is projected until 2030, the year in which the deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals is met, to which both UNICEF and the BMW Group have joined. The purpose of this alliance contributes to the objective Quality Education and towards the end of this joint work it is proposed to have a multidimensional approach, with transformative gender actions and a common vision between sectors.
