Budapest August 18 2026 - During the Debrecen Flower Carnival the MAV group is preparing condensed flights as well as a coordinated night schedule on the day of the national holiday and special concert days. After the evening concerts some trains depart later and additional bus services depart on some lines so the transport company group ensures a smooth and uncompromising journey home from Debrecen and the surrounding settlements. It is worth planning your trip in advance in the MAVPlusz application where you can also buy the necessary tickets and passes. A 15% digital discount can be applied to tickets exchanged at MAVPlusz.
The Debrecen Flower Carnival is one of the most significant summer cultural events in the Eastern Hungarian region. Between August 18 and 23 in addition to spectacular flower carts impressive parades and downtown programs visitors can enjoy free concerts. Since the events attract tens of thousands of people to the city every year the MAV group provides safe and comfortable travel options to and from the city for cloud-free entertainment.
Trip to Debrecen
During the Flower Carnival visitors can choose from the following bus routes during the day:
From Budapest: Nyirseg and Latorca InterCity trains run from Keleti station and Civis InterRegio trains run from Nyugati station every hour during the day.
From the wider area: Nyiregyhaza Miskolc Eger Szolnok and the surrounding settlements regular long-distance bus or train connections are provided typically every 30-120 minutes.
From the county of Hajdu-Bihar: Suburban buses from nearby settlements and passenger trains around Debrecen guarantee continuous access.
Return home after the evening concerts
During the Flower Carnival on special concert days and on the national holiday (between August 19 and 22 2026) the MAV group provides a late-night return home to all important regional destinations. The last trains leave Debrecen 35-44 minutes later than usual between 23:20 and 23:30. In the directions where the railway does not lead new night bus services will start after the big concerts thus creating a coordinated and integrated transport system.

Late evening relief buses depart from the bus station
The usual bus services between 22:40 and 22:50 will run unchanged. In order to reach areas where direct rail access is not available the MAV group will run relief buses every evening at 11:20 p.m. between August 19 and 22 on the following routes:

Towards Hajduszovat - Foldes
Towards Hosszupalyi - Letavertes
Ticket purchase and travel planning
Due to the increasing passenger traffic the MAV group recommends that visitors buy tickets for InterCity trains days before the start of their journey.
The easiest way to conveniently plan your trip and to purchase tickets seat tickets and passes outside of the queue is to use the MAVPlusz application but you can buy tickets and seat tickets as well as passes on the www.jegy.mav.hu website from the ticket vending machines at railway and bus stations and at the cash desks.
