Works are underway by Infrastructure Malta in Triq tas-Sejba in Immaqaba after it suffered extensive damage. This road was being used as a diversion route due to the ongoing works next to the airport and is a crucial one for connectivity in particular for the residents of Immaqba Qrendi and Siiewi. Through an investment of 1.5 million the agency is building an independent structure for this road with reinforced foundations.It was explained that the road itself was at risk of collapsing and therefore in view of this damage to public safety Infrastructure Malta limited access for vehicles in this area and started the works. required consolidation and reconstruction of the road immediately.During a visit he made to this road together with the CEO of Infrastructure Malta Ivan Falzon the Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia emphasized that the safety of the residents and those who working in the garages on this street was an absolute priority. A number of residents and workers in the area told us how this road suffered a number of damages over the years but temporary work was always done on the same damage. That was why the decision was made that this time the work to be done will be one that will take longer but will last much longer. In this way we are not only offering peace of mind to everyone who uses the road but we are also intervening now for the future stated Minister Farrugia.At the end of December last year the agencys contractor began preparatory geotechnical tests on site before the necessary structural works could begin. These tests confirmed that the road was built on weak foundations. Immediately afterwards the excavation process began to place concrete structures in the form of columns.The new foundations of the road will be made of 49 steel reinforced concrete columns ranging from 8.5 meters 3 floors to 40 meters 12 floors in length. So far 60 of these columns have been put in place. These columns will be covered with steel to ensure a stronger foundation for this road. Other works in this project include drainage telecommunications and electrical connections again prior to the laying of a new asphalt surface.
