π Tender Overview
In March 2023 several dozen prison officers and security forces participated in a series of training sessions in Timbuktu. Organized by the National Directorate of Penitentiary Administration and Supervised Education DNAPES in collaboration with MINUSMA these workshops enabled participants to build their capacities in the administrative management of penitentiary establishments and security in the prison environment. .In prisons security is an important responsibility for staff who must be trained and keep their skills up to date. The first of the three workshops focused on the development and validation of job descriptions making it possible to avoid conflicts of jurisdiction within the Maisons dArrt et de Correction MAC particularly in terms of security. This exercise also made it possible to assess the needs in human resources thus improving the management and organization of the administration in these prisons. The second training focused on search techniques in particular for the detection and recognition of narcotics and drugs. The third was a theoretical and practical workshop on techniques for preventing and fighting fires in the prison environment. A last particularly relevant training in a closed environment where the residents do not have freedom of movement underlined Mamadou TEMBELY Director of Cabinet of the Governor of Timbuktu during the launch of the session. These trainings are of paramount importance for the staff as recalled by the Regional Director of Prison Administration and Supervised Education Harouna TANGARA. They contribute to the establishment of safe secure and humanized prison establishments in the North and Center of Mali. These efforts are part of the implementation of MINUSMAs mandate resulting from UN Security Council Resolution 2640 2022 aimed at supporting the restoration and extension of the authority of the state and the rule of law in Mali.
