π Tender Overview
Following the public call for the granting of the operator license ensuring broadcasting via DAB+ and the establishment and management of a first multiplex on 19 August 2024, the Minister responsible for Radiocommunications and Radio Spectrum Management has selected the application of the Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) for the granting of the license. The Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy Department (SMC) is currently finalising, in close collaboration with the Luxembourg Audiovisual Authority (ALIA), the public call for applications for the granting of permissions for sound radio services to be broadcast on the first digital multiplex. The operator license will be awarded after the call for applications for radio services has closed.
In accordance with the operators specifications, DAB+ broadcasting will begin on the three main broadcast sites no later than six months after the date of granting of the licence, and the network must be completed no later than eighteen months after the date of granting of the licence. At the same time, the SMC is considering the development of the concept for the second digital multiplex dedicated to local radio stations. In this context, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, responsible for Media and Connectivity, Elisabeth Margue, met with representatives of the Daachverband Letzebuerger Lokalradioen (DLLR) on 12 November 2024. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the specific needs of local radio stations and the practical arrangements for their transition to the digital multiplex.
