📋 Tender Overview

In order to reduce the impact on the environment and save money, more and more residents who are installing their homes are looking for smart solutions. A rooftop solar power plant, heat pumps or energy storage devices with lower electricity prices – today, houses that adapt to needs and optimize energy consumption are no longer a futuristic dream, but a reality that is often achieved.

"Smart homes have rooftop solar panels, an electric vehicle that can be charged directly from their own energy source, as well as air-to-air heat pumps or an energy storage device that allows you to store excess solar energy when it is not needed and use it later, when the electricity prices received from the network are higher," says Dovil? Kapa?inskait?, chief adviser of the Ministry of Energy.

According to her, these solutions not only help residents save and live more sustainably, but also contribute to their energy independence.

"If, for example, a storm occurs and electrical wiring breaks, residents can supply their homes with energy from their own source using energy storage devices. At the same time, it provides resistance to rising electricity prices and tariffs, so by using self-generated energy, residents can significantly reduce their costs," shares D. Kapa?inskait?.

The demand for smart homes will grow

According to the expert, renewable energy sources can be integrated into smart home technologies, which allow you to automatically perform many functions: adjust the temperature, increase or decrease the lighting, automatically control the position of the curtains, thereby regulating the flow of light in the room - this way the room does not heat up and reduces the cost of electricity for its cooling.

Vytautas Vrubliaukas, deputy director of the Environmental Project Management Agency, is also second to her – according to him, one of the biggest advantages of smart homes is the automation of systems.

"The system can independently adjust the lighting, temperature or other parameters, depending on the needs of the residents or the presence in the house. For example, when there is nothing in the house, the lights automatically turn off, and the temperature is reduced to the optimum, thereby contributing to energy savings. Also, smart homes can use more energy from renewable sources on a sunny day, when its supply is the highest, and reduce energy consumption from the grid when the demand for it is higher," shares V. Vrubliauskas.

The expert notes that in the future, smart home technologies will become more popular and will be even more aligned with renewable energy – homes will be able to generate, store and manage their energy resources even more efficiently, using solar power plants, electricity storage devices and other advanced technologies.

"In the next 5-10 years, energy management systems will become even smarter, more effectively adapting to fluctuations in market prices, consumer peaks and individual energy needs," says the deputy director of the Environmental Project Management Agency.

The goal is the country's energy independence

D. Kapa?inskait? emphasizes that the energy autonomy of individual households will not only help to reduce costs and live more sustainably, but will also contribute to the country's energy independence, which is one of the main strategic directions of Lithuania.

"We strive to make Lithuania an energy-independent state, and every resident who has installed a solar power plant in his home and installs smart solutions in them contributes to this. In general, we have a lot of such people and their number is growing - the population is familiar with renewable energy, improving technologies and their advantages," says the expert and reminds that the country's residents can apply and receive funding for the construction and purchase of solar power plants.

"There is a number of measures to encourage the construction of solar power plants on rooftops, the purchase of part of it from a remote park or the merger of residents, the public sector and businesses into communities. Residents can find detailed instructions and more information about EU investments on the pages of the Lithuanian Energy and Environmental Project Management Agency, on the website of the esinvesticijos.lt and the Ministry of Energy," shares D. Kapa?inskait?.

"Jau žaliuoja" is a communication campaign initiated by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania and the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA). It aims to raise awareness that the country's population and businesses are also strengthening the state's energy sector by addressing energy self-sufficiency issues, while EU investments accelerate the growth of energy self-sufficiency, directly contribute to the well-being of the population and the creation of a competitive environment. The campaign is funded by the European Union.
