This academic year the Ministry of Energy is awarding 20 scholarships to students who choose energy studies. The scholarship of 300 euros will encourage students who will choose specialties in the energy sector at 6 higher education institutions. The energy sector today is one of the most receptive to innovation and new technologies. Electricity consumption in Lithuania is growing every year and in the next decade this sector will undergo a huge transformation so the specialty of energy engineer is one of the most promising professional choices today energy workers will be needed not only in Lithuania but also in other countries says Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys. It is expected that targeted scholarships will motivate graduates to choose the field of energy which is especially necessary for the state and will stabilize the number of students in the fields of energy and related sciences. From 2018 there is a noticeable decrease in the number of entrants to study programs in the field of energy which will automatically create a shortage of specialists in the sector in the future. Currently a particularly difficult situation is being observed in the heat economy sector - students are slow to choose programs in this field higher education institutions are debating the fate of programs and the training of specialists in Lithuania is insufficient. Scholarships are available for the following study programs 5 Electrical Energy Engineering Gediminas Technical University of Vilnius 3 Renewable Energy and 2 Mechanical Engineering Kaunas University of Technology 3 Chemistry and Physics of Nanomaterials Vilnius University 2 Innovative Process Engineering and 1 Shipping and Ports engineering Klaipeda University 2 places each in Electrical Automation Devices Panevys College and Electrical Energy Kaunas Technical College.
