📋 Tender Overview
The government approved the planning scheme (boundaries and management plans) of the Sartai Regional Park, which provides for the establishment of two new nature reserves in this protected area – dusetai forest and Ilgašilis.
These nature reserves will protect six types of natural habitats of European Community interest: western taiga, Broadleaf and mixed forests, grass-rich fir forests, Swampy deciduous forests, alluvial forests, Swamp forests and species characteristic of these habitats.
Reserves will be established in biologically particularly valuable forest quarters in the Dusetai forest and the Ilgašilis Botanical-Zoological Reserve, where protected species of birds, plants, fungi and lichens are found, key forest habitats, forest habitats of EC importance, part of the areas of importance for habitat conservation (BAST) and areas of importance for the protection of birds (SPA) are found.
The area of the proposed Dusetai Forest Nature Reserve is 106.3 ha, and the Ilgašilis Nature Reserve is 126.0 ha.
After the formation of new reserves in the Sartai Regional Park, 28% of the forests of the reserves in it will become reserve forests, 233.9 hectares of forests of the protective zones will be assigned to the forest group of the reserves. In addition, there will be no farm forests left in the Sartai Regional Park – they will be classified as a forest group of protective zones.
The barelyyna nature reserve, already located in the Sartai Regional Park, will also be expanded, its area will increase by 42.4 hectares.
The government's program includes the goal that a quarter of the country's protected areas are subject to a strict protection regime, that is, only the activities necessary for the preservation of living nature can be carried out, and nature-friendly management measures are used. Currently, the strict protection regime applies to about 16% of the total area of the country's protected areas. The above-mentioned territories include: nature reserves, reserve areas, water bodies of part of the reserves, core forest habitats in state forests, part of natural pastures and wetland areas subject to special conditions of land use, etc.
There are a total of 41 nature reserves in Lithuania, their area is 41,154 ha.
