📋 Tender Overview
The issues of energy security of the Baltic region in the context of the geopolitical situation, the transformation of the energy system and the use of renewable energy sources to increase the security, resilience and ensuring independence of the country's energy system are the main topics of the conference organized by the Lithuanian Energy Agency. The event "A New Reality of Energy Security in the Baltic Region" was organized together with the Latvian Ministries of Climate and Energy and the Estonian Climate.
As inga Žilien?, Deputy Minister of Energy of Lithuania, noted at the event, the new National Energy Independence Strategy has established a new approach to the country's energy security and provided solutions that will help to ensure this. "Lithuania's energy security is an integral part of national security. A program has been developed and implemented in the country to develop a framework for the physical and cyber protection of strategic and critical energy infrastructure. Due to the geopolitical situation in Europe, we need to ensure both the resilience of our country's energy infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of the entire Baltic region, cooperating both at the regional and European and international level," said the Vice-Minister.
"Energy security is now more than ever a priority issue, especially in view of the current geopolitical challenges. Regional cooperation is essential to build a resilient and independent energy system and to secure energy supplies. The growing share of renewable energy sources in energy also requires new solutions that ensure a reliable supply and system stability. We must continue to strengthen the connections in the region, while strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure," agn? Bago?iut?, director of the Lithuanian Energy Agency, said while welcoming the participants of the conference.
The main objectives of the EU Baltic Sea Strategy in the field of energy are the integration of markets, the synchronization of the Baltic States with the networks of continental Europe, the improvement of energy efficiency and the increase in the share of renewable sources (RES) in total energy consumption. These objectives go hand in hand with ensuring energy security in the region.
The countries of the Baltic Sea region face common challenges in the field of energy – the need to ensure greater sustainability, energy efficiency, as well as to increase security of energy supply and diversification, in which context regional cooperation is particularly important.
Energy experts and regional partners invited to the conference "A New Reality of Energy Security in the Baltic Region" shared relevant information and discussed the new realities of energy security, with the countries of the region aiming for security goals in a coordinated manner.
At the event, representatives of the Ministries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, energy and defense experts shared their insights on how renewable energy ensures energy security, what it will be like in the future and how the supply infrastructure and reliability are strengthened. Critical measures to protect the physical protection and resilience of energy infrastructure in the Baltic States were discussed. The perspective of the Danish energy system and the energy security solutions of Estonia and Latvia in the transition from fossil fuels to the use of RES were also presented.
Experts discussed how to ensure the stability of the energy system, reducing the significance of fossil fuels, switching from fossil fuels to green technologies, shared ideas on how to form a sustainable energy policy in the Baltic States, and looked for an answer as to whether concerns about energy security could affect the development of renewable resources.
The Lithuanian Energy Agency, together with its partners – the Latvian Ministries of Climate and Energy and the Estonian Climate – is actively working on the EU Interreg Baltic Sea Region Cooperation Programme project PA Energy, which promotes the EU's energy goals in the region through cooperation and sharing of good practices.
The EUSBSR PA Energy activities are carried out in order to simplify the implementation of the EU's energy targets in the Baltic Sea region, taking advantage of macro-regional cooperation. The project's activities are aimed at coordinating the implementation of the objectives of the EU Macro-Regional Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in the field of energy. PA Energy activities co-financed by the Interreg project #A007 PA Energy.
