📋 Tender Overview
October 17 In Telšiai district, the Latvenergo Group, which also owns the company Elektrum Lietuva, which operates in Lithuania, buried a symbolic capsule by announcing the start of construction in telšiai wind farm. The largest Latvenergo wind farm in Lithuania will start operating in the first quarter of 2026, with a capacity of 124 megawatts (MW).
"The importance of sustainable, renewable energy is growing every day all over the world. We are witnessing an increase in energy consumption, so it is important to develop new green electricity generation projects. Every renewable energy project implemented in our region brings us closer to energy sustainability. This is especially important from the point of view of energy security, and we also ensure lower energy costs for residents and businesses, which is one of the most important aspects in attracting investment and promoting the creation of new jobs," says Kaspars Melnis, Minister of Climate and Energy of Latvia.
According to Daiva Garbaliauskait?, Deputy Minister of Energy of Lithuania, each project of this scope also significantly contributes to the implementation of the Green Deal policy – by developing renewable energy projects and creating a favourable regulatory environment, we not only strive for 100% clean energy production by 2030, but also ensure sustainable business and industrial growth.
"We are in a favourable geographical position in terms of the development of renewable energy. In addition, we are well connected with our neighbours – Latvia, Estonia. Each of them has a relatively small economy, but together they have a high potential for renewable energy. This new wind farm is not only another successful investment project, but also a huge step towards Lithuania's energy independence. Each such new project is a guarantee of national security, so that we - as a country, as a society - would be safer," says Vice-Minister D. Garbaliauskait?.
During the implementation of the project, twenty wind turbines with a capacity of 6.2 MW will be built in Telšiai district, and the annual amount of electricity generated by them will be enough for more than 125 thousand km. Households. It is estimated that the value of the project will be about $ 200 million. Euro.
According to M?rti?š ?akste, Chairman of the Board of Latvenergas, the project is not only very ambitious in terms of its scope, but will also give an advantage in terms of commercial activities – in less than two years it will be possible to operate modern and efficient green energy installations that will provide electricity to the Baltic market.
The company has also started to implement projects of three new solar parks near the Lithuanian seaside. It is estimated that the capacity of these three parks will reach 176 megawatts (MW), and the total volume of solar and wind farms currently under development is 504 MW. Six Elektrum Lietuva solar parks are already operating in Lithuania, with a total capacity of 29.6 MW. Already in the spring of next year, electricity production will also start in the first wind farm in Akmen? district.
Currently, the amount of renewable energy sources allowed to be generated in Lithuania in the network is approaching 3.5 GW. The volume of renewable energy in Lithuania has increased more than 4 times in four years.
