* Through the educational strategy Little Seeds of Cancer Prevention teachers will be trained to incorporate cancer prevention content in the classrooms and promote healthy habits that benefit thousands of schoolchildren and their families.
The National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN) continues to strengthen cancer prevention in the country through the educational strategy Little Seeds of Cancer Prevention, which will be implemented in educational institutions in La Libertad thanks to the agreement signed with the Regional Education Management. The initiative seeks to incorporate preventive education from the school stage, promoting healthy lifestyle habits and greater awareness of the risk factors associated with cancer.
As part of this strategy, teachers at the initial, primary and secondary levels will receive specialized training and pedagogical tools to develop in the classrooms content related to cancer as a public health problem, the importance of timely detection, the main risk factors and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, through playful and participatory methodologies adapted to each educational level.
At the end of the training process, teachers will prepare a proposal to incorporate the strategy in their educational institution, integrating it into learning sessions and school activities. Likewise, they will be evidenced through educational products.
In this first stage, 64 educational institutions belonging to the UGEL 03 Trujillo Nor Oeste, UGEL 04 Trujillo Sur Este, Gran Chimu, Santiago de Chuco, Bolivar and Sanchez Carrion will participate, allowing thousands of students to access training aimed at cancer prevention and health care.[CLCR1]
Healthy habits are learned from the first years of life. For this reason, the school is one of the most important spaces to train children and adolescents in the adoption of practices aimed at caring for their health, allowing them to become agents of change within their community.
We know that the most frequent neoplasms in Peru are cervical, breast, prostate, stomach and lung cancer and they are avoidable or preventable. Faced with this scenario, the coordination between the Health sector and the Education sector will allow reliable information to be brought to the educational community, promoting informed decisions and healthy behaviors that contribute to reducing the risk of developing the disease.
With this strategy, INEN continues to expand its preventive work in the regions of the country, convinced that educating from childhood is one of the most effective tools to reduce the impact of cancer on future generations.
