Kenya Proposals Tiko Tender

📄 Tender ID: 500641706 📅 Published: 16 Feb 2024

📋 Tender Overview

Established in 2014, Tiko Africa is a nonprofit organisation that leverages technology and behavioural insights to design, implement, and scale a digital motivation platform called Tiko. Tiko connects adolescents and young people in low-income communities with non-judgmental, quality-assured HIV and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and products tailored to their specific needs. We envision a world where all sub-Saharan African youth have the power to choose where, when, and how they meet their sexual health needs.

The Tiko platform meets our young people where they are and offers them services and products that help them to achieve their goals. These goals may include postponing or preventing pregnancies, ensuring healthy pregnancies, knowing their HIV status, using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of HIV, adhering to antiretroviral therapy (ART) for viral suppression, or acquiring the necessary digital, vocational, and soft skills to secure income opportunities.

In Kenya, Tiko has successfully established multiple ecosystems of partners, including private and public clinics, as well as local demand-generation community-based organisations (CBOs) across the country. These ecosystems address the unique challenges faced by adolescent girls, powering them to make informed choices regarding their SRH, mental health and menstrual hygiene.

By combining the power of technology, behavioural insights, and strategic partnerships, Tiko is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to adolescent girls in Kenya. Our goal is to empower them to make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being, ensuring they have access to relevant services.

Our challenge:

To date, the relationship with our platform partners (CBOs) has been very transactional leading to low levels of satisfaction in working with Tiko. We desire and need to better support, equip and add value to our CBOs. As valued partners and critical assets to Tiko’s success, we want to support them to excel as organisations, and in so doing see higher impact, increased loyalty and reduced fraud or risk issues.

Our vision and goals:

To develop a robust capacity-building programme that equips our platform partners to excel in their work with and without Tiko. The capacity building programme will not only benefit their implementation of the Tiko programme but also support their growth and development as organisations.

Goals for CBOs:

Equip CBOs with better management skills to support and motivate their Mobilisers to make a higher impact, have fewer fraud issues and have a lower turnover rate of Mobilisers.
Equip CBOs with the ability to secure additional funding outside of Tiko to enhance their work within youth in the communities they serve.
Equip CBOs with the ability to better manage their finances and budgets to ensure longevity as an organisation
Adaptable approach:

To achieve this vision, our aim in collaboration with a capacity-building partner is to Pilot a skills development programme for CBO staff (Directors/Programme leads).

Under this request, we invite partners to propose how best they would offer additional value to CBOs and equip them with any or all of the following areas of expertise.

Financial management. (eg. understanding and interpreting financial statements, creating and managing a budget, setting financial goals etc)
Fundraising and proposal writing (Equipping CBOs with the ability to secure additional funding)
Team leadership and human resources management (Motivating and leading a team of Mobilisers and CBO staff)
As well as any additional skills gaps the capacity building partner advises will be required and add value to our CBOs.

Proposal Considerations:

Upskilling CBOs that geographically will be spread across Kenya
Upskill a minimum of 10 CBOs
Reaching CBOs with varied skills, competencies and digital literacy levels.
CBOs have requested that all capacity building to be practical and applicable within their everyday work.
Impact measurement; we would need a clear understanding of how we would measure the impact of the pilot on the CBOs performance and organisational growth.
Timelines; we would not want the pilot to take longer than 3-6 months.
Scope of work

In partnership with the Tiko team, the primary purpose of the partner’s input will be to develop the programme’s approach and content materials, as well as support the implementation, reporting and analysis of the pilot.

The partner will lead on proposing how best we will achieve our vision. They will drive the implementation process to prove the impact of the suggested approach. Following the success of the capacity-building pilot we would aim to look at how we could scale this approach across all our CBOs in Kenya.
