πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Published Aug. 12, 2026 Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs ARLIGNTON, Va. (AFNS) -- The Department of the Air Force has selected Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, as the preferred location to replace the existing 26 UH-1N Huey helicopters with 26 HH-60W helicopters. JBA will gain 60 active duty manpower positions as part of this transition to the HH-60W. On Aug. 27, Andrews will stand up the 5th Helicopter Squadron, the first unit on base to receive the HH-60W. The 1st Helicopter Squadron, established in 1969, will continue to fly the UH-1N until it converts to the HH-60W mission. Both squadrons will support Contingency Response Operations in support of the U.S. government, defense support to civil authorities and senior leadership transportation. The current UH-1N fleet is 49 to 59 years old and lacks the speed, range, and lift capacity required to provide cost-effective, modern mission support. The HH-60W delivers significant increases in payload capacity, maximum airspeed, and mission range to ensure the aircraft can meet tasked mission requirements. The service anticipates full operational capability in 2030. U.S. Air Force Logo
