This ambitious initiative contemplates a preliminary global investment of US$ 220 million (without VAT) and will serve 3.6 million passengers per year.Lima, January 16, 2026.- Towards the end of the first quarter of the year, the Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSION will take a decisive step to strengthen air connectivity and the regional competitiveness of the country, with the incorporation of the Third Group of Airports project to the Private Investment Promotion Process.
This ambitious initiative contemplates a preliminary global investment of US$ 220 million (without VAT) and will serve 3.6 million passengers per year, consolidating airport infrastructure as a key driver for economic growth, tourism and territorial integration.
The project includes the modernization, rehabilitation, improvement, operation and maintenance of the airports located in Jaen (Cajamarca), Huanuco (Huanuco), Jauja (Junin), Ilo (Moquegua), Rioja (San Martin), Nuevo Chimbote (Ancash) and Yurimaguas (Loreto), as well as the operation and maintenance of the Chinchero International Airport (Cusco), one of the main axes of tourism development in the country.
ADEQUACY OF STUDIES
Currently, PROINVERSION is working on the adaptation of the technical studies of the airports of Jaen, Jauja, Rioja and Chinchero, with the objective of completing the Evaluation Report to begin the promotion process, which will allow the technical, economic and financial aspects of the project to be presented to potential national and international investors at the end of March.
This progress is based on a key milestone reached last November, when the final results of the technical studies for the modernization of the Ilo Airport Gral. Jorge Fernandez Maldonado Solari and the Huanuco Airport Alferez FAP David Figueroa Fernandini were presented to regional and local authorities.
Both terminals are part of the Third Group of Airports package, promoted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), through PROINVERSION, under the modality of Public-Private Partnership (PPP). During the presentations it was highlighted that the interventions will guarantee the safety, efficiency and continuity of air operations.
In the case of Huanuco Airport, the project includes the expansion of the passenger terminal, the construction of a new control tower, the modernization of the Rescue and Fire Fighting area (SEI), as well as the rehabilitation of the landing strip and the expansion of the aircraft apron. For Ilo Airport, the works include the remodeling of the passenger terminal, the modernization of the SEI and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the runway and apron.
With the validation of these studies, PROINVERSION consolidates its transition to the promotion and future concession phase of a strategic project that will boost regional economies, attract private investment and bring opportunities to millions of Peruvians, reaffirming the States commitment to decentralized, sustainable and competitive development.
