📋 Tender Overview
Students are in a good place in Hungarian higher education, the Deputy State Secretary for Innovation of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation said at the opening ceremony of the academic year of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) on Friday.
László Bódis spoke about the fact that four years ago there were seven Hungarian universities in five percent of the world's best higher education institutions, now their number has increased to 11, while the number of patents at Hungarian universities has quadrupled, and the number of publications published in excellent international scientific journals has increased by almost 80 percent. This year, 106,2030 students have been admitted to Hungarian higher education, which is one third more than last year, and five thousand of them will start their studies at BME, the Deputy State Secretary explained. Based on all this, there is a good chance of achieving the goal of having at least one Hungarian among the world's top 100 universities and at least three among the top 100 European universities by <>, László Bódis highlighted. He advised students to get involved in research during their university years, not to think of university as part of a mandatory process after which "life with a capital letter" would begin, but to start collaborating with faculty and companies where they spend their internship.
University professor Gábor Stépán, Széchenyi and Bolyai Prize-winning mechanical engineer, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences said that BME is in the best 3-4 percent of the world's universities, so students can be proud to study here, but at the same time advised them to be humble in the face of work. He said it was important for students to gain experience abroad because the technical profession is "very international".
Rector Tibor Czigány said that the university had had several successes in the past year, among which he highlighted that BME's fifth satellite was launched into orbit. The rector emphasized the importance of cooperation between university teachers, researchers, industrial and economic actors, as well as students not only in Hungary but also internationally. Tibor Czigány stressed that BME is an international university, as every eighth student is a foreign citizen, and the institution is a member of the EELISA university alliance, which aims to renew and unify European engineering education, and students can also participate in the Erasmus programme.
At BME, teachers do everything possible to ensure that students become successful and better professionals, so their appreciation is important, the rector said. At the event, the university's satellite team received recognition for its innovation achievement related to BME's fifth student satellite.
