On April 27 2023 State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security Pter Sztray together with the former head of British intelligence MI6 Sir Alexander Younger held an opening lecture at the Chain Bridge Forum which provides a framework for the Hungarian-British strategic dialogue and which took place for the first time.In his opening lecture he emphasized we are witnessing a tectonic change in the international order after the Cold War which practically led to the collapse of the Helsinki system. These changes will also have an impact on the redesign of the European security architecture. The consequences of the conflict in Ukraine impose serious challenges and burdens on both Hungary and the international community.At the panel discussion entitled Foreign policy security and defense - Regional European security the state secretary explained the impact of the war on the region and Hungary and explained the Hungarian position in this regard. He emphasized the fundamental importance of peace and the start of meaningful negotiations in order to save human lives and avoid further destruction. He noted that the protection of the rights of the Hungarian national communities is a central element of the Hungarian foreign and security policy thus influencing our position in judging Ukraines Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Regarding the long-term perspective the state secretary argued that the EU and NATO should stay out of the war.
