π Tender Overview
With the blocking of communication channels between the West and Russia the world is even giving up hope for peace in Ukraine - warned Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto on Wednesday at the Conservative Partnership Institute CPI panel discussion in Washington. In connection with the anniversary of the 1956 revolution the head of the ministry emphasized that Hungarians do not have to explain to anyone what it is like when a giant army overruns the country and hundreds of thousands of citizens are forced to flee abroad. In his speech he called it a historical lesson that whenever there was a conflict between East and West Central Europe always lost. He also complained that when the Hungarian government argued in favor of maintaining the communication channels it was immediately classified as pro-Russian or an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.Pter Szijjrt believed that the European Union completely mishandled the crisis in Ukraine because the reasoning behind the sanctions in February was that they would force the Russians to their knees and help end the war quickly but now its November and theres an armed conflict became more and more brutal and the European economy collapsed. He underlined the actions of the current administration in Washington are dangerous as they may contribute to the escalation of the situation. The minister then spoke about the importance of peace and expressed his regret that when he mentions it some people immediately label him as a Russian spy because currently there is more of a rhetoric of war and escalation among the EU member states. He stated that Hungary is still interested in keeping the communication channels open in the hope of peace regardless of what anyone thinks about it the governments policy has no Ukrainian or Russian aspect only the national interest matters. In the end he condemned the hypocrisy of European politics saying that several EU foreign minister colleagues regularly assure him of their support in person or via SMS but they do not dare to do so openly for political reasons.
