π Tender Overview
At 12:10 on April 17, 2026, my country successfully launched a high-precision greenhouse gas comprehensive detection satellite using the Long March 4C carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The satellite successfully entered the predetermined orbit, and the launch mission was a complete success. The National Space Administration is responsible for the organization of satellite engineering, the organization and coordination of major events, and the approval of launch licenses. The Earth Observation and Data Center of the National Space Administration is responsible for the overall project work; the Ministry of Ecology and Environment is the lead user department, responsible for organizing the construction of application systems and carrying out related applications; the China Resources Satellite Application Center and the Aerospace Information Innovation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences are responsible for the construction and operation of ground systems; the Eighth Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation is responsible for the overall development of satellite systems and launch vehicle systems.
The high-precision comprehensive greenhouse gas detection satellite is an operational satellite for the medium and long-term development plan of the national civil space infrastructure. The satellite runs in a sun-synchronous orbit and carries five payloads. It can implement high-precision detection of greenhouse gases and pollutant gases in a variety of ways. It also meets the relevant detection needs of the natural resources, agriculture and rural areas, forestry and grassland, and meteorology departments, and supports the implementation of the double carbon strategy and the construction of a beautiful China.
The high-precision greenhouse gas comprehensive detection satellite will coordinate observations with the atmospheric environment monitoring satellite to build an environmental monitoring space-based platform with major observation methods such as laser, ultraviolet, visible light, infrared, etc., and initially form a combination of active and passive, high spectral resolution, and high time resolution remote sensing monitoring of atmospheric environment elements such as greenhouse gases, pollutant gases, and aerosols. The capability lays the foundation for the construction of Chinas space-terrestrial integrated environmental change monitoring, regional pollution gas and greenhouse gas coordinated monitoring systems, provides continuous and reliable spatial information support for the development of ecological and environmental protection, and plays a role in Chinas global climate change management and decision-making, environmental diplomacy and contract fulfillment, energy conservation and emission reduction, and air pollution prevention and control.
This mission is the 638th launch of the Long March series of launch vehicles.
