📋 Tender Overview
Four real-world laboratories on the topics of artificial intelligence, mobility and climate will receive follow-up funding totaling around three million euros until 2026.
Baden-Württemberg's most successful real- world laboratories on the topics of artificial intelligence, mobility and climate will receive follow-up funding totaling around three million euros until 2026. With their ideas, topics and concepts, real-world laboratories have become established at Reutlingen University , at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment , at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT and at the University of Stuttgart , as Science Minister Petra Olschowski announced.
Minister Petra Olschowski said: “I am pleased that we have succeeded in continuing to finance the four real-world laboratories. The experts are convinced that further important findings and solutions for climate protection and AI use can be expected from them. Sustainable solutions for the future topics of climate, mobility and artificial intelligence can often only be developed and successfully implemented through the interaction of society, politics, business and science.” The four real-world laboratories, their previous work and their project outlines for follow-up projects will be further supported by an independent expert committee were rated best.
Funded real-world laboratories
The following real-world laboratories will be funded for another two years:
Real-world laboratory “EKUS hoch i” (continuation of “CampUS hoch i”) at the University of Stuttgart: As a follow-up to the successful real-world laboratory “CampUS hoch i” for the implementation of climate neutrality in state buildings on the Stuttgart-Vaihingen campus, it will now be examined how users Buildings can be motivated more effectively to behave in an energy-saving manner and to actively support the implementation of climate goals. The follow-up project builds on research into individual room regulations (technical) and determinants of individual motivation (social science).
Real-world laboratory “Climate-RT-LAB” at Reutlingen University: The real-world laboratory Climate Neutral Reutlingen aims to in-depth research, support and expand the city of Reutlingen’s path towards climate neutrality. The goals include researching and shaping the institutionalization process of climate neutrality, promoting a culture of sustainability and perpetuating sustainability transformation. Reutlingen is aiming for climate neutrality by 2040.
Real-world laboratory “MobiQ” (sustainable mobility through sharing in the neighborhood) of the HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen: The real-world laboratory project “MobiQ” is committed to sustainable mobility in neighborhoods. The second funding phase will also be carried out at the three real-world laboratory locations in Stuttgart-Rot, Geislingen and Waldburg. The aim is to generate knowledge for generation-appropriate, gender-fair and non-discriminatory mobility design and to put this into a concept that enables a climate-friendly and livable mobility future for cities and rural areas.
Real-world laboratory “Robotic Artificial Intelligence” at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT): The real-world laboratory aims to make artificial intelligence tangible for people through humanoid robots. The research areas include user groups in different environments - from daycare centers to schools to museums, libraries and hospitals. The findings from joint research between society and science should then form the basis for the development of future humanoid robots.
