π Tender Overview
The statutory minimum wage will increase by 41 cents from 12.41 to 12.82 euros gross per hour from January 1, 2025. Bavarias Minister of Labor Ulrike Scharf commented on the development: According to the law, the correct level of the minimum wage is set by the Minimum Wage Commission. It is independent and made up of representatives of employers and employees.
The committee is based on the development of collective wage agreements. For me, this mechanism is absolutely right. Wage determination is the sole responsibility of the collective bargaining partners - and not of politics. In this context, Scharf criticizes: The repeated calls for a statutory minimum wage of 15 euros and the recent attempts at political influence on the independent Minimum Wage Commission are easily seen as election campaign maneuvers and are wrong.
Last but not least, they damage the integrity of the body. Scharf also calls for bureaucracy to be reduced when it comes to the statutory minimum wage: The salary limits for documentation requirements must be standardized and reduced to a reasonable level. For the minister, time is of the essence: In the current economic crisis with its severe impact on the labor market, we must do everything we can to relieve the burden on the economy and stabilize jobs. The minimum wage law currently creates excessive bureaucratic hurdles. We should say goodbye to these as quickly as possible.
