📋 Tender Overview

The Schnbuchbahn resumes operation partly double-track and fully electricThe Schnbuchbahn runs again from now on electrically After expansion and electrification it resumed operations on the schedule change on Sunday December 15. The public celebrated the opening with many celebrities on Saturday after more than two years of construction. A second track was built over a distance of six kilometers. The entire route was electrified. In addition a new depot was built at the Bblingen train station. The Bblingen district administrator Roland Bernhard could not hide his relief during the opening drive in the morning A stone falls from my heart because it was hard work. Until the end everyone involved in the construction had to make enormous efforts to ensure that the train runs electrically. The operating company WEG also had to train its staff under the new conditions and train them in handling the new electric vehicles. But we did it - all together The largest and most expensive transport infrastructure project in the history of the district has been completed. I am glad that our partner in the Zweckverband the district of Tbingen always supported our ambitious plans. In his speech the district administrator also thanked Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann because the state of Baden-Wrttemberg is funding the project with around 51 million euros.Minister Hermann emphasized the sustainable and ecological character of the project Sustainability is a guiding principle of the state government especially in the area of mobility. The expanded and electrified Schnbuchbahn offers commuters an attractive alternative to cars in close intervals. Only with a turn in traffic can the goals of climate protection and air pollution control be achieved - as if one had already suspected at the start of construction that everyone is talking about climate protection is. Projects such as the expansion of the Schnbuchbahn are key prerequisites for the traffic turnaround. The state subsidy is good money a contribution to climate and environmental protection and to clean mobility without traffic jams. Mayor Dr. Stefan Belz confirmed Many citizens of Bblingen have been waiting for the Schnbuchbahn to be back. It has now been expanded and will soon run continuously on electricity. This is extremely gratifying for the city and its citizens. In Bblingen the railroad runs in sections on a second track and in future on the specially built overpass over Herrenberger Strasse. The central hub of Bblingen is once again one rail line richer and the locations in Schnbuch are very well connected again. We can be proud that there are such large-scale construction projects in the district and the city of Bblingen We are making significant progress with the environmental association and investing in sustainable climate-friendly and networked mobility - for the benefit of our business location and the quality of life for everyone. The starting point for the construction work was the groundbreaking for the depot in Bblingen at the train station in November 2016. In summer 2017 work began on the double-track expansion between Bblingen Zimmerschlag and Holzgerlingen-Hlben with the railway underpass under Bblinger Strasse in Holzgerlingen and the new construction of the stop Holzgerlingen-Hlben and the redesign of the Holzgerlingen station with the construction of a central platform and a second platform track. At the same time the line from Bblingen to the railway station to Danziger Strasse was expanded to include two tracks and the demanding railway overpass was built via Herrenberger Strasse. Then the overhead line was installed the line for the traction current was drawn and the control and safety technology was installed. As with many construction projects the special purpose association also had to deal with numerous imponderables forcing passengers to switch to alternative rail traffic for longer than planned. But in the end the construction work pays off. In future the trains will run between Bblingen and Holzgerlingen during rush hours instead of every 30 minutes every quarter of an hour. The travel time is reduced by the electrical operation. From 2021 over 10000 passengers are expected to work every working day. The forecast for the 2025 time horizon comes to 14000 passengers. Up until the end 8800 passengers were on the train every working day.New innovative vehicles are also needed to upgrade the Schnbuchbahn. The 25-year-old eight diesel multiple units will be replaced by light comfortable electric multiple units from 2021. Your advantages They consume less energy are more powerful faster and less polluting and polluting the environment. The contract for delivery and maintenance of the new trains went to the Spanish manufacturer CAF after a Europe-wide tender. They are scheduled for delivery in July 2021. Until then four borrowed electric trains from DB Regio and their own diesel vehicles will run.In order for the 15-minute cycle between Bblingen and Holzgerlingen to run with two cars each due to the increasing demand the special-purpose association had to decide to order three additional ones in addition to the nine electric railcars originally ordered. The country has announced a grant of 30 percent.Overall the construction costs for the infrastructure are expected to be around EUR 120 million.
