📋 Tender Overview
South Korea's Ministry of Research has announced a list of funding available for research and development (R&D) on critical and emerging technologies in 2024.
At the end of 2023, the South Korean parliament passed the 2024 budget. For the first time in more than three decades, funding for R&D funding is falling. According to the government, this primarily concerns ineffective research programs and subsidies for R&D in companies. Funds to promote R&D on “ Critical and Emerging Technologies ” (CETs), however, have increased by KRW 340 billion (EUR 235.7 million) to a total of KRW 5 trillion (EUR 3.5 billion)*.
In 2022, the Korean government defined twelve CETs in its “ Critical and Emerging Technology Promotion Plan ” that are of national importance as growth drivers and bridging technologies. The Ministry of Research has now published a list of the funds available in 2024 for seven of these technologies:
Semiconductors: KRW 636.2 billion
Artificial Intelligence: KRW 777.2 billion
Advanced Biology: KRW 977.2 billion
Cybersecurity: 190.4 billion KRW
Quantum technologies: 125.2 billion KRW
Energy storage: 136.4 billion KRW
Space: 836.2 billion KRW
The ministry recently presented its work plan for 2024 to implement related measures and other activities.
