The state has handed over the replacement building INF 272 for the Chemical Institutes to the University of Heidelberg. The new building offers modern laboratory space and uses sustainable technologies to save energy.
On October 24, 2024, State Secretary of Finance Gisela Splett handed over the replacement building INF 272 for the Chemical Institutes to the University of Heidelberg . State Secretary of Finance Gisela Splett said: "This new building is the sixth and penultimate construction phase for the renovation of the Chemical Institutes at the University of Heidelberg. The state has invested in a high-performance research infrastructure here." The laboratory and internship areas are now centrally located in one building. The new building created a modern laboratory building.
Efficient building technology
The high-quality insulated building shell, the generation of process cooling using well water, a 245 square meter photovoltaic system on the roof and highly efficient heat and cold recovery systems save electrical and thermal energy and reduce carbon dioxide (CO?) emissions. The state has invested around 26.2 million euros in the replacement building. The project was implemented by Vermögen und Bau Mannheim/Heidelberg .
Chemical Institutes at the University of Heidelberg
The Chemical Institutes (INF 270 to INF 276) were completed in 1961. They are located in the middle of the university campus "Im Neuenheimer Feld" (INF). The institutes are used for inorganic chemistry (ACI) and organic chemistry (OCI). The building complex consists of a central, longitudinally aligned main building and six wings offset at right angles to it (comb structure). Over the last 20 years, individual sections have been renovated or renewed one after the other.
