π Tender Overview
From May 17th, hunters throughout Bavaria will be allowed to use night vision technology when hunting wild boar and predatory game at dusk and at night. Bavaria's Hunting Minister Hubert Aiwanger has initiated the necessary changes to the implementing regulations of the Bavarian Hunting Act. Aiwanger: βBy using night vision technology when hunting wild boar and predatory game such as foxes, we make it easier to hunt these predominantly nocturnal animals, which cause great damage in agriculture and to endangered species such as ground-nesting birds or even spread animal diseases. Safe shooting with night vision technology, even in poor lighting conditions, also improves animal welfare. We are also increasingly dealing with invasive species that are active at dusk and at night and endanger ecosystems, for example raccoons and raccoon dogs. By hunting these species efficiently, hunters make an important contribution to nature and species protection in Bavaria.β
So far, in many parts of Bavaria, but not in all districts, it has been possible to hunt wild boar, i.e. wild boars, with the help of night vision technology on the basis of general regulations from the districts. Wild boar is considered a vector of African swine fever (ASF). Thatβs why an effective reduction in inventories is important. The new regulation now standardizes the practice for wild boar and also includes predatory game and the invasive species nutria (swamp beaver), which, among other things, endangers flood dams, into the scope of application.
Wild boar and predatory game are predominantly active at dusk and at night and can therefore also be hunted at night. In order to be able to fire a targeted, safe shot despite the darkness, night vision or thermal imaging devices that are mounted on the rifle scope of the hunting weapon are a tried and tested aid.
