π Tender Overview
Bavarias Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann described the demands of the Bavarian FDP to want to abolish the Bavarian border police as security policy humbug. Anyone who wants something like that doesnt care about the safety of the citizens. The work of the Bavarian border police is more important than ever argued Herrmann. Therefore the Bavarian border police is being significantly expanded. Since it was founded in July 2018 the number of border police officers has already risen by 300 to 800 and the target is 1000 jobs in 2025. There is also state-of-the-art equipment. With our close-knit control network in the area near the border we are improving the security situation not only in Bavaria but throughout Germany emphasized the Minister of the Interior. According to Herrmann the need for the Bavarian border police is proven by the balance sheet for 2022 with significantly more illegal entries and smugglers seized drugs illegal weapons manhunt hits and other criminal offenses. Tens of thousands of criminals are caught by our border investigators every year and the trend is rising explained Herrmann who had the veil manhunt checks specifically strengthened in October last year.According to Herrmann the protection of the EUs external borders is still completely inadequate and urgently needs to be improved. An evaluation by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees according to which around two-thirds of the asylum seekers who came to Germany in 2022 had not previously been registered in another EU country although they had obviously crossed the EUs external border confirms this. The fact that more and more people are entering the EU completely uncontrolled is an increasing security risk warned the Minister of the Interior. Unfortunately there is no doubt that the stationary border controls to Austria will continue to be urgently needed beyond May 2023.In 2022 the Bavarian border investigators achieved a total of 21090 manhunt hits 2021 17901 17.8 percent during manhunt checks temporary border controls on the border with Austria and border controls at the Bavarian airports in Nuremberg and Memmingen. For example because there was an arrest warrant or a vehicle was wanted for theft. Since the establishment of the Bavarian border police the number of hits has already totaled around 77000 cases. In addition the Bavarian border police uncovered 1116 cases of weapons and explosives offenses in 2022 which means 61.0 percent more than in the previous year. In the area of document offenses there were 1576 cases 15.2 percent including for example forged passports or the improper use of ID cards and in the field of drug-related crime 3708 cases 36.2 percent. The amount of drugs seized rose by 20.7 percent to 414 kilograms 2021 343 kilograms. In addition border investigators identified 3068 cases of unauthorized entry last year 2021 1942 58.0 percent. There were also 191 cases of smuggling 2021 183 4.4 percent.
