πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The conversion and renovation work for the new office building of the Criminal Investigation Department 5 "Cybercrime and Digital Forensics" of the Central Franconian Police (KFD 5) in the "Wallensteinstrasse Police Area" in Nuremberg has been completed. The approximately 50 cyber experts of the Central Franconia Police Headquarters can now use a highly functional office building. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was convinced of this for himself today during a flying visit: "The specialists of the KFD 5 Nuremberg have modern work spaces with the best working conditions at their disposal." Until now, the department, founded in 2021, was temporarily housed in the "Am PlΓ€rrer" office building. "The conversion cost us around 1.1 million euros," explained Herrmann. "The money has been excellently invested in the increased fight against cybercrime."

According to Herrmann, the operation of the specialist department involves high technical demands on the building infrastructure. This includes ensuring stable data networks and installing suitable air conditioning technology. For example, a split cooling system was installed in the areas used by digital forensics. "This ensures that the above-average number of electronic devices function properly and that the facility can work even in midsummer," explained Herrmann.

According to Herrmann, special attention is paid to occupational safety and data security of the evidence. To this end, all rooms for securing and evaluating computer evidence have electrostatically conductive and antistatic floors, as well as a separate fiber optic network for fast data transfer between devices. In the basement there is a room with special workstations for hardware processing of the evidence. Seized data boards are loosened here, removed and then evaluated. The fumes that arise are filtered using a special extraction system.

As the Interior Minister explained, the risk of becoming a victim of crime in the digital world is greater than ever before. "That is why we at the Bavarian police have significantly increased our efforts to combat cybercrime in recent years. We currently have more than 400 IT specialists working across Bavaria." These include around 300 specially trained and qualified investigators and around 100 IT forensic experts who support investigations by securing and processing digital traces. "We plan to hire another 30 IT criminal investigators this year," announced Herrmann.
