The Bavarian police will target motorcycle speeders even more in the future. Bavarias Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann together with police experts presented a new state-of-the-art camera system on civilian police motorcycles today This means that the misconduct of traffic offenders can be recorded and all violations while driving can be completely documented explained the Minister of the Interior. Herrmann described the approximately 7000 euros per camera system as a very good investment in road safety. This enables us to get reckless motorcyclists out of traffic even better emphasized Herrmann.With a view to the start of the motorcycle season the Minister of the Interior made it clear that the new camera system is an important building block for more safety when riding a motorcycle. With the improved monitoring we want to combat the main causes of accidents involving motorcyclists and significantly reduce the number of accidents. According to Herrmann numerous serious motorcycle accidents occur every year. Last year 122 people lost their lives. Around three quarters of fatal traffic accidents are caused by motorcyclists themselves for example due to overtaking mistakes or dangerous driving manoeuvres.The advantage of documenting with a camera The recording not only enables optimal preservation of evidence in court. At the subsequent stop the motorcyclists misbehavior is also shown in pictures. We hope that this will sensitize those affected to the future. Because only a small group of motorcyclists drivers is reckless on the road said the Bavarian Minister of the Interior.The new camera system has been tested in a pilot test in Lower Bavaria during the motorcycle season since 2020. The cameras have proven themselves extremely well in the test phase so that other police headquarters are now also being equipped with them step by step Herrmann announced. Already during the pilot phase numerous overtaking violations illegal races and other reckless driving behavior were prevented and reported. However violations of compulsory insurance and license plate misuse could also be uncovered and prosecuted in this way. The camera system is used by specially trained and equipped motorcycle control groups.
