At the 17th award ceremony for the Athlete of the Year 2024 award of the Bavarian Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association (BVS), Bavarias Minister of the Interior and Integration Joachim Herrmann recognized the outstanding achievements of athletes with disabilities. The event took place for the first time in Munichs Olympiahalle, a symbolic place for sport in Bavaria.
In his speech, Herrmann emphasized the importance of sport as a unifying passion and highlighted the role of the award winners as role models for solidarity and integration. Giving up is not an option, said Herrmann, who praised the mental strength and perseverance of the athletes. The medal winners at the Paralympics in Paris have given eloquent testimony to this.
The state government is supporting parasports in Bavaria with a record sum of 971,000 euros for sports operations funding in 2024. In addition, the inclusion project Inclusive Sports School will receive 310,000 euros in funding. In the years 2021 to 2023, the BVS Bavaria has already received over three million euros in state sports funding.
For us, this financial effort for parasports is of course an integral part of our commitment as a sports state, explained Herrmann, and assured the ongoing support of the BVS Bavaria.
