The Federal Cabinet decided on the wording aid provided by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy for a Structural Strengthening Act on Coal Regions. This means that the Bundestag and Bundesrat can now pass the Structural Strengthening Act until the summer break. Altmaier Todays cabinet decision is another milestone for the active shaping of structural change in the coal regions concerned. With up to 40 billion euros by 2038 we are giving coal regions and local people a clear future perspective thus securing jobs in the regions. We will phase out of coal by 2038 but do so responsibly and actively shape structural change in the coal regions. It is now important that the concrete projects are quickly implemented after the pending decision-making process in Parliament.The Federal Cabinet approved the draft for the Coal Regions Structural Strengthening Act in August 2019. In January 2020 the federal and state governments opened upCornerstones for a coal exit agreed. The formulation aid for the Structural Strengthening Act decided today in the cabinet implements the changes in the draft law which the government factions decided after discussions in the Bundestag and Bundesrat. This includes for example the division of the planned up to EUR 1.09 billion into selected hard coal sites and a prioritization and concretization of planned transport infrastructure projects. In addition the federal government provides regulations on budgetary implementation in order to make funding of structural change projects more binding.The Structural Strengthening Act implements the Commissions structural policy recommendations Growth Structural Change and Employment. To support structural change the lignite regions will receive grants of up to 14 billion by 2038. Euros for particularly important investments. In addition the federal government supports the regions through its own responsibility with up to 26 billion for example through the expansion of research and funding programs the expansion of transport infrastructure projects or the establishment of federal institutions. The Bundestag and Bundesrat must now agree to conclude the parliamentary procedure. The Coal Regions Structural Strengthening Act is linked to the Coal Exit Act it only comes into force when the Coal Exit Act comes into force.
