π Tender Overview
"The installation works of the new dome and telescope of the Abastumni observatory have been completed. The telescope was made by Austrian companies, and the dome by Italian companies. The testing process is currently underway, followed by research, scientific and educational activities. With such an infrastructure, the Abastumni observatory regains and develops the importance of a great center of scientific attraction, on the scale of Georgia and the world", - the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, said after visiting the installation works of the new Abastumni telescope.
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure completed the construction and installation of the new telescope (with a 1.5 m diameter remote control mirror), spectrograph and the new 12-meter radius dome of the Abastumni Observatory.
The Abastumni telescope was manufactured by the Austrian company "ASA Astrosysteme GmbH", which has many years of experience in manufacturing astronomical research and observation equipment for leading scientific research institutions. The new Abastumni telescope is already working in testing mode.
More than 8.6 million GEL was spent on the project, within the framework of the loan received from the World Bank and with the co-financing of the state budget.
"In general, absolutely all buildings with infrastructural or functional load have been arranged in the territory of the observatory, with which the observatory can independently develop scientific or research activities. With the new telescope, appropriate equipment and infrastructure, the Abastumni Observatory will host high-level conferences and symposiums. We are glad that we are participating in the project that will make the Abastumni observatory a world center of astrophysical science," said Irakli Karseladze.
The rehabilitation of the observatory building was completed in 2019, within the framework of which, the visitor information center, the observatory's astronomical multimedia space and work rooms were organized. Also, the rehabilitation of the building of the canteen on the territory of the observatory was completed and a museography and interior project was prepared for the establishment of a digital museum in the observatory.
